"********Saving Grace***Spoiler*********"

After Kristie Hypnotised me and Julie pounded it in my head just in case, I finally read Saving Grace by Julie Garwood.

I read it in one day, if that tells you how much I enjoyed it. I think I was thinking it was going to be like "For the Roses" which was good but way too oooooooo long and inconsistent. That is probably why I procrastinated on reading it. It was so much better than The Roses. I really enjoyed it.

A few notes of interest and major spoilers (this means don't read it if you haven't read the book Christy lol, oh what the heck I know you're gonna read it anyway )

I was drawn in from the beginning when the Bishop was instructing his students that women were lower on the "who god loves scale" than dull witted Oxen. Then when Johanna was told her husband was dead and she through everyone out of the Chapel to pray and went to her knees "thanking God", I knew this was going to be an awesome book.

I loved her humour, and kind nature. She was way more likable as a heroine than MaryRose. I liked that she started out as this timid pacifist and then when she reached her breaking point started throwing Pottery bowls to be heard by the warriors and had them standing and sitting every time she got up.

When he first joined her in bed on their wedding night and she explained to him she was barren because she thought he was misled...and then was willing to run downstairs and find him a castle woman was hilarious.

Every time she petted his face or shoulder to distract him was hysterical as well.

Then there is Gabriel, steamy, strong, hot, warrior, highlander Gabriel...sigh....The funny thing is what I loved best about him was his warped sense of humour. The way he would goad her because he liked to see her get all angry and flustered. But then there was Gabriel the Protector of Women and Children...he took in and claimed his son even though he doesn't know for sure that he is his son. He took in and protected and fell in love with Johanna. He protected Clare even though it could mean war for his Clan. He took in his Fathers Clan even though his father rejected him even on his last breath.

What a wonderful story. Definitely will have a place on my shelf.

And Jules, not to worry, I kinda fell for Nicholas. Gabriel definitely belongs to Johanna.

Is there a book about Nicholas and Clare?

Of course I'm going to read this, Mickey!!!!

And you know what? This sounds vaguely familiar. I know I haven't read this though...maybe I just remember others talking about this book and remember them saying some of the same things...hmmm...we'll see. I'll read this book as soon as I get my hands on a copy.

I need a JG fix...it's been a while since I've read her. But better than For The Roses??? I'll have to see, as for some reason, that story still lives in my heart. Not the best hero. Not the best heroine. Not even the best romance. But that story is so special to me, so unique. Still my fav from JG...

Christy,

I went back to the archives of June 06 when several of us were reading "Saving Grace". You posted that you planned to get it, but were in the middle of reading the Bridgertons and didn't know when you would fit it in. It doesn't appear that you read it when the rest of us did, but maybe later in the year? If you don't remember it, you must buy it. It's really a great book. "For the Roses" didn't do anything for me (I have to admit I didn't even finish it), but "Saving Grace" was one of those books that I didn't want to put down. I think you will enjoy it.

I thought I did!!!!!!!!!! OK, Her first husband beats the living crap out of her on a regular basis. The bishop instructs him how to do it with a stick so as not to kill her or leave bruises for anyone to see.....Then word comes that he is dead...she rejoices but King John has another marriage to another loser in mind for her. Her brother Nicholas (tha thump tha thump) intercedes and is able to arrange an advantageous marriage for her to a Highlander...Gabriel MacBain. He is a bastard who's father would never claim him. Through wars with some English Barons, his clan and his fathers clan have merged. If you read this it should be ringing bells by now. If not then you need a re-read anyway.

I talked with Kristie about this yesterday and I have come to the conclusion that I have read it, but the details are foggy. Like I only remember certain scenes from the book...so, yes, I'll reread it. And my copy is not here because I have loaned a couple JG book to my friend Sheri, and that's been a year ago!!! I forgot to pull out my book journals to see when I read these books, but it had to have been around the first part of 2006....

Been there done that. I just read so many books that the details sometimes get real foggy. It amazes me when I really enjoy a book butttttttttttt....What really gets me is that every single detail of that book Lee and I told you about that we hate, is embedded in my mind. lol
